The Great Lakes Plein Air Painters Association was formed to provide high quality creative opportunities and to encourage excellence in plein air painting through education, exhibition, and competition. GLPAPA was founded in February of 2004 and between April and October the organization offered 9 plein air painting meets in a number of diverse settings, 7 critiques, a lecture program with 2 professional artists, a newsletter that expanded with each publication, weekly e-mail news updates, and a myriad of networking opportunities. The program was expanded in 2005 with the inclusion of an open plein air competition and this interactive web site. Any artist interested in plein air painting and who can be supportive of the goals of GLPAPA is invited to join and take part in its activities. |

The GLPAPA Board of Directors invited five professional artists with significant backgrounds in plein air painting, instruction, community services and national recognition to join the organization as Master Members. These five members, along with the Officers and Board of Directors who remained active in the inaugural year of the association, are considered Founding Members. Master status in GLPAPA begins with Artist Membership. Members are juried * by criteria authorized by the Board of Directors to include professional and creative excellence, and educational and community service. Applications for Master status will be reviewed annually and voted on by all Master Members and approved by the Board of Directors. |
